About Jack
Jack 'The Pap' Ludlam whose name became synonymous with the term 'Paparazzi'
Born in Soho and growing up in Brick Lane, Jack describes the streets of London as his playground.
Inspired by a TV programme about the iconic Italian Paparazzo Tazio Secchiarioli he decided with his typical 'chutzpah' and happy go lucky sense of humour, 'I CAN DO THAT' and in 1992 he picked up a 35mm stills camera and headed for the streets.
He very quickly realized he had a nose for capturing natural shots of famous faces that satisfied public demand.
His style is essentially street photography.
He is a prolific photographer with his motto 'you dont get nothing if you stay indoors' and his in depth knowledge of top London hangouts, he was in the right place to get 'the exclusive' before his tenacious contemporaries.
His snaps of celebrities were just what the public wanted and were being snapped up by the media for ridiculous money,the tabloids were soon clamouring to pay top prices for the images.
This success led to Jack ironically,becoming something of a celebrity himself, giving his unique insight into the world of a paparazzo on TV and radio programmes around the world.
He became 'the face' of british paparazzi.
'The Artful Smudger' (an affectionate term of reference coined by Matt Dillon after a couple of days out together when they met in a Pub in London's Soho.
This exhibition celebrates images that have gone beyond mere tabloids celebrity shots to much deeper and more fullfilling portraits of artists who have had an enduring impact on popular culture.
